Consistency is key to a successful hearing experience. In the audiology world we recommend that hearing aids should be worn during ‘all waking hours’. This implies wearing them from the time you wake up and have your first cup of coffee until it’s time for bed. Many hearing aid users make the mistake of thinking that they only have to wear it in situations where they struggle to hear. Only wearing your hearing aids once or twice a week when going to church or a family gathering is not ideal. Our brains are incredible, but need time to adapt to the new sounds such as birds chirping, an alarm bell sounding or some words that you have not heard properly in years.
Everything takes time, but the more you wear your hearing aids, the more you will hear these ‘new sounds’ making the adaptation process quicker and easier. So put in those hearing aids, and fake it till you make it! Sooner than you know, you will love your new set of ears.
